Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, September 3, 2024 – The government of Burkina Faso has officially launched its new generation of electronic passports (e-passport) with enhanced security features.


The launch of Burkina Faso's new e-passport represents not only a milestone for the country, demonstrating the government's commitment to strengthening national identity and providing the citizens with a document that meets the highest international standards, but also a pivotal advancement in secure identity management across Africa.

Enhanced e-Passport Security with Cutting-edge MLP Technology

The e-passport is fully compliant with the latest ICAO standards, ensuring it meets the highest global standards for security and interoperability in international travel. 

One of the key advancements in the new e-Passport is the upgrade from a paper-based data page to a polycarbonate-based data page. 


Burkina Faso is the first country in West Africa to adopt this industry-leading technology. This upgrade significantly enhances the durability and security of the e-passport, making it more resistant to damage and tampering while also enabling the use of more secure and complex personalization technologies.

Notably, the government has implemented cutting-edge MLP technology on the new polycarbonate-based data page, achieving a true-color main portrait, it not only enhances authentication but also elevates the security level to unprecedented heights.
