“Collect-it-yourself” ----Self-service Kiosks Contribute Home Return Permit

Home Return Permit is issued to Chinese nationals who are permanent residents of or settled in Hong Kong and Macau as the travel document to Mainland China. The permit is issued by the Bureau of Exit and Entry Administration of the Ministry of Public Security through China Travel Service sub-branches in Hong Kong and Macau and allows holders to travel freely to Mainland China.

 Collection of ID Document

The China Travel Service (HK) Limited, provides service for nearly one million Hong Kong citizens to apply the Home Return Permits travelling to mainland every year.

In December 2017, the company officially launched the self-service kiosk at Document Service Center in Hong Kong to provide document collection services. Prior to Dec 2017, citizens have to collect their renewed documents only at the manual counter, and at the peak times, applicants had long waiting time to collect their document.

After the successful self-service kiosks deployment, it had greatly shortened the processing time and the long waiting time was no longer present.

With the deployment self-service solution, less than 10% applicants collected their renewed documents at the manual counter. The self-service kiosks became the preferred choice of collection of the document to the applicants. This has helped in the reduction of the manpower for better deployment to other areas of work while improving both accuracy and efficiency in the document collection process.
